Exploring Iloilo - Escapades

Iloilo will always have a special place in my heart for it is where my dad grew up.

I have heard few things about Iloilo; however, I never thought Iloilo was captivating! The experience I had in this mystical province will forever be cherished and remembered. Good thing PBA 2010 and VBS 2010 was held in Iloilo which gave me a bigger reason to go.

Exploring Iloilo - Escapades

I woke up early dawn to go to the airport for my flight going to Iloilo. I was, undoubtedly, excited for I seldom travel...and you know what, it was WORTH IT! I stayed at Days Hotel with other bloggers and enjoyed the hotel's amenities. TOTALLY!!!

Since we were not able to join the planned tour, we had a quick tour of the Province ourselves with the help of a fellow blogger, Rio, who's family is from Iloilo.

Below are the places we went to (chronological order):

JD Bakeshop

Central Philippine University

Original Biscocho Haus

Jaro Cathedral and the Belfry

Original DeoCampo Barquillos

Perri Todd's

Super Market

Robinsons

Kopi Roti at Smallville

It was definitely a worthwhile experience! I will definitely come back to this mystical Island.

Kopi Roti at Smallville - Exploring Iloilo - Escapades

From Robinsons Iloilo, we took a jeep going to Smallville.

I was really tired! I guess everyone felt the same, but some friends wanted to have a coffee first before going back to the hotel so they have decided to go to Kopi Roti at Smallville.

For me not to ruin the day, I decided to come along. We had some good conversation and it was indeed fun! It was a worthwhile stay! Even though I was tired, I enjoyed everyone's company that night.

Since our friend was looking for a shirt for his brother, we went to Robinsons Iloilo since it was the nearest Mall from the Super Market.

Robinsons Iloilo

We were somehow tired at this point. No one even bothered taking pictures anymore, but we still had a quick tour inside Robinsons. We covered the ground floor and went to the 2nd floor just to check some cheap shirt for our friend's brother. Unfortunately, we failed.

It was a long day and everyone was really tired...

Super Market - Exploring Iloilo - Escapades

After tasting Perri Todd's biggest burger, we went to the Super Market. I, again, forced my friends to go there for I need to buy dried squids which is also one of Iloilo's delicacies.

Super Market Iloilo

It was already dark when we arrived the Super Market.Everyone was warned to be extra careful because it was also known for thieves and the like. We were on a buddy-buddy system just to make sure and prevent bad things to happen. It didn't took us some time to find what we were looking for and hastily bought what I needed.

Success! I have now my dried squid!

In addition, I like their Super Market by the way because it's cleaner and nose-friendlier compared to Dumaguete. Calling Dumaguete Government and City Officials.

Perri Todd's - Exploring Iloilo - Escapades

It was almost dinner; however, we ate too much at the Original DeoCampo Barquillos. We were supposed to eat dinner at Perri Todd's which offers the biggest burger in Iloilo. It was me who forced everyone to try the biggest burger in Iloilo.

We went inside and was welcomed by smiling waiters. We actually had our reservation hours earlier before going to the restaurant. We ordered the Premium Burger with Cheesy Mushroom Dressing and an Iced Tea Tower. We just ordered enough to taste the biggest burger in Iloilo which was rumored to be really delicious and indeed they were right!

Original DeoCampo Barquillos - Exploring Iloilo - Escapades

After all those walks, we decided to rest for a while...

From the Jaro Cathedral and the Belfry, went to DeoCampo Barquillos.

Original DeoCampo Barquillos

Original DeoCampo Barquillos
I thought it was just another ordinary store where you can buy pasalubong or delicacies of Iloilo, but I was wrong. This place was the BEST place I've been to, so far in Iloilo. The interior design of Original DeoCampo Barquillos was outstanding! I was simply stunned on how amazing the place was. I just wish I know the right words to say it.

They have this lovely pond which gave the whole place a different aura. Mystical! This is the perfect word for the place. The ambiance of the Original DeoCampo Barquillos was just perfect to relax our body, our soul and our stomach!

The Original DeoCampo Barquillos PondAfter taking our rest, we abused the place and had some fun shots! The cam-whoring disease has struck us again!
Calling the fishes in the pond to bow before me! Hahaha!

Jaro Cathedral and the Belfry - Exploring Iloilo - Escapades

After buying some pasalubong at the Original Biscocho Haus, we took another jeep going to Jaro Cathedral which is popularly known as the Church of St. Elizabeth of Hungary.

Jaro Cathedral and the Belfry

Traffic was starting to grow and people are getting crowded. In the middle of the ride, we decided to walk and burn the remaining food we took during brunch at JD Bakeshop.
Walking to Jaro CathedralIt was starting to rain and my head was about to spin. I usually get this weird headache everytime I get hit by rain. Due to this, I wasn't able to explore the place. This will definitely be one of the reasons why I will be going back to Iloilo.

The photo below is the Jaro Cathedral. It has a very unique structure...a very interesting one indeed.
Jaro Cathedral Iloilo
According to the vendorI spoke to while I bought a candle, which I usually collect whenever I travel, the Church is about to celebrate 'Candelaria' in honor to Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria (Our Lady of the Candles). Maybe that's the reason why the place was so crowded and there was a bazaar or ukay-ukay going on at the area.
Vendor at Jaro Cathedral
The photo below is the Belfry of Jaro Cathedral. This structure has been existing since the 18th century and until now it still looks really good. Iloilo definitely paid close attention in maintaining this historical landmark.

Original Biscocho Haus - Exploring Iloilo - Escapades

After walking at the Boulevard-themed University, Central Philippine University in Iloilo, we took a jeep and went to the Original Biscocho Haus.

The Original Biscocho Haus

The very popular Biscocho Haus was full-packed! There were lots of people inside buying their one of a kind biscochos and other delicacies. I wish they had more ceiling fans.
Original Biscocho HausDespite the ventilation, their employees were awesome! Speaking of customer service, they were really accommodating and helped me buy the things I wanted to buy. Kudos to the employees!

Central Philippine University - Exploring Iloilo - Escapades

After having our brunch at JD Bakeshop, we went to this lovely University which is most famous for their Engineering and Nursing Graduates.

Central Philippine University Iloilo

The very first thing I saw in the University was their personal Ambulance. I was pretty much amazed on how the University is concern with their students health promote a green and healthy environment. Like the University where I went to, Silliman University, they are most concern with their students and staffs' health.

I'm not sure if it's true, but I have heard that Central Philippine University is a sister-school of Silliman University (or some sort of like that). Whether is it's true or not, both University definitely has similarities on how the school looks like (the physical setup). They have a long lengthy field with Acacia trees on its bot sides and their Church is on the end of the field.

If you try to look at this picture below, you can see the Church at the back and the Acacia trees on the side. Sorry, I couldn't find a better picture to show the Church.
Cebu Bloggers at Central Philippine UniversityWhat I love the most of this University is the Boulevard-like theme. It just feels like you are walking in a park. See more photos below:

JD Bakeshop - Exploring Iloilo - Escapades

Iloilo JeepFrom the Hotel where my friends and I stayed, we took a jeep going to a bakeshop that is very popular for their chicken. Outstandingly, a bakeshop is not limited to bread alone.

JD Bakeshop Iloilo

JD Bakeshop Iloilo
JD Bakeshop is the best place for you if you are on a limited budget. They serve you very affordable food yet will definitely bloat your stomach! Haha! They serve you a different taste of what chicken is in Iloilo.

I ordered Chicken and Salad for only Php 49.00 and it definitely made my whole day worth while! There are more great foods here that you should try. I will definitely come back here soon!

Tibiao Fish Spa – Experience Ichthyotherapy Lifestyle

As a former soccer player and an active dance sport contestant during my High School and College days, the most brutally abused part of my body was my feet. Bruises, scratches and wounds are just some of the many injuries my feet has been through...

...and then I’ve heard of Tibiao Fish Spa where they offer a unique way of cleaning and relaxing your skin, especially your feet. Interesting is it?
The Tibiao Fish Spa

Tibiao Fish Spa – Experience Ichthyotherapy Lifestyle

I remember when my friends and I went to a well known place in Negros called, The Twin Lake, where I first experience the Ichthyotherapic lifestyle. I noticed that while my feet were calmly floating on the lake, small fishes where actually biting and eating my dead skin…and damn it was very ticklish, yet very relaxing.

Ichthyotherapy is a therapy used to treat dermatitis, hyperkeratosis and psoriasis by letting the fish eat the dead skin on the affected area. The fishes used in this therapy are toothless so basically, they don’t bite; however, suck the dead skin. Constant sucking is the cause of the massaging-effect which produces a gentle tingling sensation that people feel during Ichthyotherapy.

That is how Tibiao Fish Spa basically works. For the love of the marine life, three students from the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences spearheaded and conceptualized the idea of making it a business with the help of their friends and fellow students. Now, they currently have 2 Branches: the main branch at Tibiao, Antique and one at SM City Iloilo.
Tibiao Fish Spa in SM Iloilo
When you try to think of it, this 'Fish Spa thing' just sounds expensive and luxurious. However, you might get amazed on how affordable the spa is offering:

At the main branch in Tibiao, Antique, people can enjoy and experience the Ichthyotherapic lifestyle for only Php 2.00/minute (Php 1.00/minute for students) with a Php 20.00 entrance fee. For SM City Iloilo Branch, experience this fish nibbling activity for just Php 100.00 for half an hour, and Php 50.00 for the next 15 minutes.

BUT WAIT! THERE’S MORE! (hahaha!)

Their services don’t end there! They also have the following services like VIP Fish Spa, Clear Glass Fish Spa, Full Body Fish Spa, Full Body Massage and they also have Manicure and Pedicure.
Tibiao Fish Spa Services
What a fun and exciting way to relieve stress while exfoliating the dead layers of your skin!

This is indubitably a MUST TRY!

Manila, PHILIPPINES - SM Cinema, the largest local chain of movie theatres today announced the launch of its new website that will bring, online reservation and ticket purchasing to a revolutionary way of providing added convenience to its customers, across all of its cinemas nationwide.

The announcement comes just before the opening of the final Harry Potter movie.

With its new website, SM Cinema is the first to introduce mobile ticketing compatible to mobile phones from any manufacturer, Filipinos will be able to purchase tickets from the website and redeem the tickets at the cinemas using a mobile phone. This is made possible by using a simple text message which contains a code called "bCODE".
BCode Machine
Unlike other payment and ticketing services that require picture messages (such as a 2D barcode), data plans, special chipsets (like NFC), or mobile-app downloads with expensive smartphone devices, the bCODE-powered service is compatible with all mobile phones and consumer demographics.

Through this partnership with SM Cinema, bCODE will provide a network of its innovative, interactive 3G-enabled scanning terminals across all SM Cinemas in the Philippines. The first phase will feature both mobile-payment on the website and mobile-ticketing services in the cinemas.

bCODE’s unique, globally patented technology uses point-of-sale scanning terminals to securely read and authenticate plain-text, SMS-based encrypted codes from the display screens of mobile handsets. This allows consumers to access a variety of loyalty, ticketing, and payment services from existing platforms.

Mobile commerce via plain-text SMS means that anyone with a mobile device can instantly benefit. BCODE’s technology is compatible with more than 2,000 mobile-phone models and more than 4 billion existing devices globally.

Leading IT-services provider e-Commerce Asia Ltd. (ECOM) with offices in Shanghai, Hong Kong and the Philippines will integrate, implement, and support this redemption network, which will provide SM Cinemas with advanced mobile-commerce services such as payment, ticketing and loyalty marketing.

According to Michael Mak, founder and CEO of San Francisco-based bCODE: “The competitive landscape has permanently changed, and merchants earning the most customer loyalty will, in turn, become the most profitable. That’s why we designed our bCODE loyalty platform to help retailers reach, reward, and retain customers.”

ECOM's offices are in Shanghai, Hong Kong and the Philippines. ECOM is the exclusive local partner of the bCODE service, a mobile-commerce service based on a patented encrypted plain-text SMS message, ubiquitous on billions of devices. SM Cinema

SM Cinema is proud to be the largest cinema exhibitor in the country today, currently operating 218 cinemas in 37 SM Malls nationwide! SM Cinema, which recently opened its newest branch in SM Novaliches last October 22, 2010 continues to expand with 2 more branches expected to open this year - San Pablo and Calamba, Laguna.

Leaders in the Digital Era

SM Digital Theaters - the FIRST TRUE digital cinema in the Philippines - opened its doors to the public on November 14, 2007 at The Block SM City North EDSA with Beowulf 3D as it's first movie shown. Since then, SM Digital Theater opened up opportunities for 3D cinema and featured some of the biggest 3D movies like Up, A Christmas Carol, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Avatar, Clash of the Titans, Shrek Forever After, Despicable Me, Megamind, giving moviegoers a fully-immersive experience.

SM Digital Theater shows it flexibility by also showing 2D Hollywood movies like Transformers 2, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, G.I. Joe, Wolfman and Inception. The noticeable difference is the unparalleled clarity of movies compared to movies shown in in regular 35 mm film.

SM Digital Theaters took a giant leap ahead of the digital pack when it became the first cinema to bring in the cutting-edge motion effect seat simulators last December 2009. SM Digital Theater is the only theater to offer seats which move with every action packed movie scene. With this new innovation, SM Digital Theater adds a whole new dimension to the cinematic experience.

Since it's first branch at The Block, SM City North EDSA, SM Digital Theater has rapidly grown with the birth of 25 more branches nationwide, SM Digital Theater continues to stamp its place as the leader in digital technology by bringing this cutting-edge cinematic experience to millions of Filipinos nationwide.
Experience the Difference. SM Digital Theater – The Leader in Digital Technology in the Country.

Firsts and Only

Once again SM Cinema paves the way for the ultimate cinematic experience. After opening the first ever IMAX Theatre in the Philippines at the SM Mall of Asia back in 2006, SM Cinema raised the bar with the country's first IMAX Digital Theatre at the SM City North EDSA last July 16, 2009. Now, SM Cinema strengthened its lead in the race for technological evolution with the first IMAX Digital Theatre in Cebu - reaching out to millions of Filipinos outside the Metro! IMAX Theatre SM Cebu opened with a bang last July 9, 2010 in time for the release of the highly anticipated Christopher Nolan movie, Inception! Only SM Cinema brings this breakthrough in cinematic experience to Filipinos nation wide.

IMAX Theatre SM City Cebu is uniquely equipped with IMAX's digital projection system which will surely deliver The IMAX ultimate movie experience to all its moviegoers.

IMAX Theatre's digital theater system uses a comprehensive suite of proprietary IMAX technologies, that, when integrated together, creates an experience that consistently puts the audience IN the movie.

This is the world's most advanced digital theatre system and is superior to all conventional digital systems, just as IMAX's film-based system is superior to conventional film-based systems.

Interactive Cinema

A first and only in the Philippines, Winema at SM Cinema is a groundbreaking innovation which turns the whole movie audience into human joysticks through interactive cinema gaming. The project launched last May 2010 in SM Megamall with Boink Out (an Arkanoid game) and Power Catcher (catching falling products). Due to insistent public demand, Winema was launched in SM North Edsa The Block Cinema 1 (September 8) and SM Mall of Asia Cinema 3 (September 9).

The elements of the game are fairly easy. With a motion sensitive camera, movie watchers will maneuver the character on screen left and right by waving their arms in the air according to the direction they want it to follow. Each game will run for 1:30 minutes so the movie audience need to accumulate as much points under the given time.

Aside from playing Winema for free, the movie audience that gets to beat the high score will receive a prize for each audience member. So as they say, focus!

To ensure the novelty of this breakthrough for loyal SM Cinema patrons, new games will be introduced regularly. Winema schedule: Fridays (6PM onwards), Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays.

A Marketing Scam by LG - Boycott LG Products

Just saw this Hate Page for LG's 50% Discount Promo and this is indeed one interesting one. It's a hit...big time! You can check it here.

Few friends were also their to grab the chance to actually have and buy their products for a 50% slash off. However, I guess, they were just not willing to give their products. If that's the case, they should have not made this event in the first place.

This was taken by Marco in SM Cebu.

...and they love to sell as many phones as possible with this kind of strategy...err!

From their headline, ONE DAY. ONE HOUR. ONE CHANCE, this is definitely a one BIG brouhaha!

Promoting Cebu's Lifestyle, Fashion and Events for Best Cebu Blog (BCB) 2010

I may not be a true blue Sugbuanon, I may not know the whole history of the Queen City of the South and I may not have the personality of a Cebuano; however, the only thing I know that's certain is my unconditional love for Cebu. This blog can indubitably attest to that!

From a personal blog, this blog has grown and evolved to discovering Cebu's lifestyle, learning Cebu's fashion trend and promoting Cebu's events.

This blog has stood strong and gained loyalty every now and then.

In connection to this entry, let me give you a link on my Holy Week Escapade in Bantayan Island last April 2010. This was a planned travel where I made a personal project of experiencing and learning the lifestyle of a local resident (Manong Noc-Noc) in Bantayan.

This personal project has been a hobby that I would love to do yearly, if possible.

Let this post be my official entry for the Best Cebu Blogs of 2010. An entry of totality! The totality of this blog is its edge for this contest!

Cheers!
