If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram (@rabsin_d), I am (at least) a regular Sunday runner. I try my best to free my Sunday morning for my morning jog and I have been doing it pretty well.You will also notice that I am very active joining marathon runs and simple friendly jog and sport exercises. Well in fact, I will be joining a quick 5K marathon this coming Sunday. This will be a good warm-up for my plan to try again the 15K run at The Gaisano Country Mall 20th Anniversary Run.

Break the Silence

I personally admire the works of Gualandi Volunteer Service Programme, Inc (GVSP) for their big effort in supporting our deaf community and our sexually abused community (whether it be a child, a woman or even a man). If you guys are unaware of what is happening to our society now, 65-70% of deaf boys and girls are being molested and is still continues to rise according to studies conducted by the Philippine Deaf Resource Center.

I have been very athletic lately and recently went back to marathon runs (will share more about my runs on my next few posts). Unfortunately, as much as I would love to join Break the Silence Run, my work is in total conflict with the schedule; however, my heart and soul is in full support with this cause so I encourage you guys to join  forces and fight sexual abuse!

Charity run brings hope for VCMC patients

CEBU CITY – Marathon aficionados can run to support charity programs dedicated to VCMC patients.
As the trend of marathons skyrockets over the past years, the Visayas Community Medical Center (VCMC) wants the Queen City of the South to know that there is a charity run on the docket – VCMC (Value Charity and Make a Change) Run.

For the first time, runners are invited to dedicate their healthy feat to support the charity patients of VCMC, an institution under the tutelage of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP). The VCMC Run will be held on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at Parkmall, Mandaue City.

The Visayas Community Medical Center’s Association of Residents and PGIs, the official fundraising board, has joined hands with the Junior of Chamber International (JCI) – Mandaue and Womandaue to further the cause of providing medical and financial help to patients in the infirmary.

“Whether you’re running in honor of a loved one, to celebrate your own personal health or another reason, we can join forces for a great cause,” said Jude Bajarias, Internal Medicine Resident Physician and one of the event organizers. “By running together, we can make a great contribution to advancing medicine in the area of our patients’ health.”

Registration will start in August and the fees per category are Php 250 for 3k and 6k, Php 300 for 12k and Php 500 for 21k. This will include a singlet and race kit and less than a hundred bucks from the original price should participants opt for the race bib only. Furthermore, successful 21k participants will be given a finisher’s medal. This, by far, is the cheapest registration rate in Cebu marathon history. Registration centers are in VCMC (Osmeña Blvd), Ice Castle (Rain Tree Mall and SM), Parkmall and Runnr Ayala. Attendees of the event are encouraged to bring the whole family. Sponsors and donations of any amount are also available.

Resident and PGI members and organizers are very optimistic about the upcoming marathon. The support, motivation and camaraderie of the group throughout the program and on race will prove to be most invaluable.

Join this year’s VCMC Run and be part of a humanitarian revolution in providing patients with limited resources the financial and medical assistance they need. For them, this will yet be another glorious light at the end of the tunnel.
