ARCHCon 2010 COSPLAY COMPETITION - SINGLE and GROUP COSPLAY

ARCHCon 2010 Cosplay Competition
Finally, rules and guidelines are here for the much awaited Cosplay Competition before this year ends, the ARCHCon 2010 Cosplay Competition!

Check ARCHCon 2010 Pre-registration (Single and Group Cosplay Competition).

ARCHCon 2010 COSPLAY COMPETITION

GENERAL RULES:
  1. Anyone from any organization can join.
  2. We will accept characters from any written or visual media. Original Character’s (OC’s) will not be eligible for the competition.
  3. Registration will be done before and during the day of the convention. Registering early will not determine the order of performance. We will randomly select which group/individual will perform first.
  4. Metal props and metal costume components are allowed for this competition. With that in mind please nothing bladed, or anything that will pose immediate harm to any of the participants of the convention or yourself. (We advise those who carry swords to please keep them sheathed as much as possible). We will still not allow any pyrotechnics or chemicals to be used on and off stage.
  5. Groups must present a skit. Single division participants may not need to present a skit BUT will be interviewed on stage.
  6. This year we put great emphasis on character but we know it’s tiring to be acting like your character all day. Therefore you need only be in character from 2:00 PM till after you have gone on stage. Please be in the convention proper area during that time.
  7. This year our parade of characters will be held on stage to also give a chance to people who want to take photos of those cosplaying (additional details will follow).
  8. Please bring your CDs with your music if you wish to have it played during your time.
  9. There will be a repair booth for those who need to make emergency repairs during the convention.
  10. We know that cosplaying your favorite characters is exciting but please let’s keep it wholesome. Ayala is a family place after all.
  11. The breakdown for this year will be:

    • 50% - Character (on & off stage)
    • 30% - Skit (audience impact, originality, neatness) / Interview (audience impact and IN character answering)
    • 20% - Costume (accuracy & neatness)

SINGLE DIVISION RULES:
  1. Should you present a skit you will be given between 1 – 3 minutes of performing time.
  2. Once again if you wish to have your own music played during your time please bring a CD.
  3. If you have entered yourself in the single division you will not be allowed to participate in the group division FOR ANY ROLE.
  4. Registration Fee = P50.00

GROUP DIVISION RULES:
  1. Group Participants will be allowed only 2 – 9 Members. This will not include props men if you should have any. We will allow props men to handle materials on stage however if the skit will look messy due to the number of people on stage it will affect your score.
  2. You will be given only 3 – 5 minutes of performing time. Anymore will be deducted from your score. Timer starts when your skit officially starts. Set up all you want.
  3. We encourage the group to interact with the other participants either as a group or individuals.
  4. Please bring a CD with your music if you wish to have it played during your time.
  5. Registration Fee = P100.00 per member
So what are you waiting for??? Mark that calendar and we'll see each other on November 6, 2010 at ARCHCon 2010!

Havaianas Shares a Thousand Smiles

What makes your kids smile?

Chances are, the answer to this question doesn't involve the latest gadgets or vacations in far-away, exotic places. More often than not, it is the simple things in life that puts a smile on their faces: a happy Sunday morning breakfast, a hug from mom and dad or even the feel of fine sand under their feet at the beach.

Smiles are the truest expression of happiness. To commemorate Smile Month this October, Havaianas, the world’s favorite flip-flops, is launching the Design a Smile campaign to spread cheer and share thousands of smiles with Filipino children. Havaianas is creating a venue for children to heal the broken smiles of other children who have cleft lip and cleft palate deformities.

Havaianas - Design a Smile

A series of design contests from October 16 to November 14, “Design a Smile” will give children the chance to show the world their artistic talents and, at the same time, create better futures for the children of Operation Smile, a non-profit, volunteer medical organization that provides reconstructive surgery and health care to kids with facial deformities.

Children from 5 to 12 years of age can participate in "Design a Smile" to lend their creativity for a greater cause. All they have to do is come to any of the events, which will be held in major malls nationwide, and design the sole of a Havaianas pair based on the theme, "What makes you smile?" Prizes from Havaianas, My Masterpiece Movement, Polaroid, Faber-Castell, KidsSports, and Orange Juice await the winners.

The top winning entry will be produced by Havaianas in a future collection and will be sold nationwide for the benefit of Operation Smile.

So, this October, let your kids share their creativity and help heal the smiles of their fellow children.

Below are the schedules of Design a Smile for Manila, Davao, Bacolod, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, Tarlac, Lipa, Naga and more...

Design a Smile Schedules:

PREVOLUTION - Vudu's 9th Annual Halloween Costume Ball

Prevolution Halloween Costume Ball If you all know, Vudu has been closed for quite sometime due to renovation. However, this will not stop them from organizing an event! This coming Halloween, VUDU will be open for one weekend only for a sneak peek on October 30, 2010, Saturday for the 9th Annual Halloween Costume Ball - PREVOLUTION. Tradition continues, but this year it will be open season for all things thought of, all things they long of becoming, all things imaginary or real. This year, one can go to the extreme or do the ironic, go traditional or avant-garde, just as long as they leave their daily selves behind.

PREVOLUTION - Vudu's 9th Annual Halloween Costume Ball

This one weekend only sneak peek into the new VUDU will be like an adventure, since VUDU will not be fully done yet, they will be partying in the unrestrained walls, unvarnished and raw. Like the party tittle suggest, PREVOLUTION, it is not the start, but rather the beginning of what is yet to come. Where everything is near ready, where greatness is about to unfold.

This is going to a SPOOKYTASTIC event!!! I'd better think of my costume ASAP!!!

I hope to see you all there! You can check Vudu's Facebook Page for more info.

Preview Magazine in Cebu - Celebrating its 15th Anniversary

A week ago, I was invited to the 15th Anniversary of the Preview Magazine which was held at The Penthouse Cebu last October 16, 2010. It was a full packed celebration with people from the media, the elite, the higher class society and people from the show-business industry...where there to celebrate with the Preview Magazine's 15th Anniversary...and since it's their 15th year, everyone were obliged to wear something with crystal or with crystal ensembles on it.

Few hours before the party, I bought a plain black mask and put some crystals on it just to meet the dress code requirement. I was planning to wear a coat-and-tie for the said event; however, when I went home to prepare, I saw my cabinet EMPTY! The laundry shop still has not delivered my clothes...sigh. It was only me and my Barong Tagalog in my room...and I thought, since I was particularly known as Mr. Barong Tagalog, the Barong Tagalog dude or Mayor, why not stick to the statement...and so I did!
Preview Magazine in Cebu
This Barong Tagalog was actually given by a local designer from Dumaguete during Adventure Envoy where I was best in Evening Presence. See awards here.
Back to the 15th Anniversary of Preview Magazine, The Philippines' Best-Selling Fashion Magazine, it was a total BLAST! The people were fashionably amazing and the interior was outstanding! Too bad I never had my photo taken with my mask on.

Below are photos with Raymond Gutierrez and Tip Yap:
Raymond Gutierrez at Preview Magazine 15th AnniversaryTim Yap at Preview Magazine 15th AnniversaryThere were more artists at the event, but the place was just too crowded, especially that it was an open bar! Thanks for the great weekend Preview Magazine!

Red Mango in Cebu Ayala Branch

Finally, the long awaited Red Mango is here in Cebu. They are located at the 4th floor of Ayala Center Cebu which is one of the most populated area in Ayala. They will definitely have big market there!

Red Mango in Cebu

Too bad I don't have my camera to take a photo of my Blue Berry Mango Crush. So I'll guess this will just be a heads up to everybody that there is a Red Mango in Cebu!

You can check DoiSpeak's Red Mango Experience for more information and to see some great photos.

Cafe Elysa at Parian Cebu - Reviving Parian

Parian Cebu was one of the highlights and the most popular places in Cebu. Most of the old houses where established there since it was a grate place stay. It was where most Filipino-Chinese Mestizos were found.

Today, Parian Cebu is like an unused candle that needs to be kindled. It is not as pretty nor as safe as it used to be.

However, despite this shadow-ish aura, it is still considered as a tourist spot in Cebu. Parian, as the oldest Chinese district of Cebu is being highlighted with their outstanding tourist spots like Casa Gorordo Museum, the Heritage of Cebu Monument (The Colossal Bronze Tableau, which used to be the Plaza Parian), the Jesuit House of 1730 and Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House.

In addition to these fascinating tourist spots in reviving Parian is another simple and cozy restaurant called Cafe Elysa located at the center of Parian Cebu. Once you have reached the Heritage of Cebu Monument or sometimes called as the Castrillo Monument, you are pretty much close to the place. You can either ask around or walk to the nearby Police Station (Brgy. Pulis Station) and ask...you will find Cafe Elysa in no time.

Cafe Elysa at Parian Cebu

I was invited to experience the combination of Local and Travel Inspired Cuisine at Cafe Elysa at Parian (Thanks to Doyzkie and Jude). I got the chance to meet the owner of the said place, Steve Aznar, who keeps coming back and forth from abroad. Cafe Elysa was named after his mother Elysa Aznar. The place is now full with art works of local artists (or maybe foreign) which are for sale and some portrait of the owner's family. Cafe Elysa is a bit small compared to other restaurants, but it's enough to make 4 or 5 families indulge themselves of the great food and feel the ambiance of what we call home.

For me, I think the place is fashionably elegant. I remember a restaurant in my hometown, Dumaguete, where it has similarities. I think the restaurant was called Boston Market and is owned by Kudos.

However, a place will always have rooms for improvement....and they can start with the chairs. I'm not sure if it was just me or the chair I was on was just uncomfortable...Thank God for the food and deviated my attention...it was just to captivating to ignore!

That night we had a very interesting and informative dinner.
  • Caviar - it's tasty...starting of with a Fita biscuit with cheese and fish eggs on top.

  • Salt and Pepper Squid in a bed of Bokchoy- one of the best I've tasted!

  • Popcorn Shrimp - very delicious and is one of the must haves in the place.

  • Pinoy Lumpia - I ate most of the these...it's just so yummy.
  • Tangigue Ceviche - you can also call it Kinilaw and it's indubitably mouth watering. Unlike other restaurants, the fish used here is fresh. Two thumbs up!

  • Thai Spring Roll - complemented the sauce perfectly...

  • Chicken Liver Pate - one of the must haves... Perfectomi!

  • Spicy Beef and Eggplant Cake with Red Curry topped with Holy Basil - sooo holy..haha!

  • Pasta Bolognese with Basil and Grana Padano Cheese - This is the BEST for me!!! I suddenly remembered the movie 'Eat Pray Love'.

  • Elysa Rice - one of the must haves. This is actually a guilt-free fried rice. Unlike any other fried rice, this particular fried rice do not have oil stains on it.
  • Banana Apple Fritters - a very sumptuous dessert! The banana is a must try!!!

It was indeed a great night!
Thanks to Nayki for the photos.

Reminders for those who will be visiting the place:

Cafe Elysa is open from Tuesday - Sunday (they are close on Mondays)
(11:00 am - 3:00 pm) and (6:00 pm - 10:00 pm)

What is interesting about this restaurant is that they have a Standard Menu and they also have a Menu that changes every week. This is definitely something new in Cebu.

They will also be having guest chefs in the house once in a while. For that, Chef Skippy Borromeo, a proud Cebuana, will be at Cafe Elysa on October 22, 2010 and she will be preparing an American dish Cuisine with a touch of Filipino taste. Please see below for her menu on the 22nd.

Menu on October 22, 2010 - Only for Php695.00

- Appetizer -
  • Roasted Shrimp Cocktail
  • Tiger Prawns with Chili Sauce and Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice

- Salad -
  • Lettuce, Carrots, Kiwi and Mandarin Oranges with Honey, Mango-Lemon Dressing

TRON: LEGACY (In Disney Digital 3D™ and IMAX 3D)
WALT DISNEY PICTURES
Website: Disney.com/TRON
Facebook: facebook.com/TRON
Twitter: twitter.com/TronLegacy

Genre: Action-Adventure
Rating: TBD
U.S. Release Date: December 17, 2010

Casts: Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, Bruce Boxleitner, James Frain, Beau Garrett and Michael Sheen
Director: Joseph Kosinski
Producers: Sean Bailey, Jeffrey Silver, Steven Lisberger
Executive Producer: Donald Kushner
Written by: Eddy Kitsis & Adam Horowitz (credit not final)
Based on characters created by: Steven Lisberger and Bonnie MacBird

“TRON: Legacy” is a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world that’s unlike anything ever captured on the big screen. Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), a rebellious 27-year-old, is haunted by the mysterious disappearance of his father Kevin Flynn (Oscar and Golden Globe winner Jeff Bridges), a man once known as the world’s leading video-game developer. When Sam investigates a strange signal sent from the old Flynn’s Arcade—a signal that could only come from his father—he finds himself pulled into a digital world where Kevin has been trapped for 20 years. With the help of the fearless warrior Quorra (Olivia Wilde), father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe—a universe created by Kevin himself that has become far more advanced with never-before-imagined vehicles, weapons, landscapes and a ruthless villain who will stop at nothing to prevent their escape. Presented in Disney Digital 3D and scored by Grammy Award-winning electronic music duo Daft Punk, “TRON: Legacy” hits U.S. theaters on Dec. 17, 2010, in Disney Digital 3D and IMAX 3D.

Notes:
  • Producer Steven Lisberger co-wrote and directed the original “TRON” (1982).
  • Jeff Bridges, winner of both the Oscar and Golden Globe for his role in “Crazy Heart,” reprises the role of Kevin Flynn, which he originated in “TRON” (1982).
  • Bruce Boxleitner reprises the roles of Alan Bradley and Tron, which he originated in “TRON” (1982).
  • Grammy Award-winning Daft Punk is composing the music for “TRON: Legacy.”
  • “TRON: Legacy” forges a new frontier in film making with its avant-garde, cutting-edge technology—set to blow away today’s audiences. Among the film’s firsts: it is the first 3D movie to integrate a fully digital head and body based upon an existing actor, creating the younger version of Jeff Bridges’ character; it’s the first movie to make extensive use of self-illuminated costumes; it’s the first movie to create molded costumes using digital sculpture exclusively, creating molds directly from computer files using CNC (Computer Numerical Cutting) technology; it’s the first 3D movie shot with 35mm lenses and full-35mm chip cameras; and it’s the first movie to record uncompressed HD Video to Hard Drive.
  • The world of “TRON: Legacy” has an exciting, pulsing vibe that sets its lifestyle apart from any other on or off the planet. From electric light suits to state-of-the-art hair and makeup, elements of the trend-setting world of “TRON: Legacy” are showing up on fashion runways, and companies such as Hurley, adidas, Oakley and Burton are featuring “TRON”-inspired lines targeted for the young male consumer in collaboration with Disney Consumer Products.

TRON: Legacy is a 3D high-tech adventure about a father and son (Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund) who embark on a life-and-death journey of escape across a visually stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.

Honor and Excellence by Professor Solita Monsod

Honor and Excellence by Professor Solita Monsod

I am only one
But I am one
I cannot do everything
But I can do something
What I can do
...I ought to do
and with the Grace with God
I will do it

And if all of us ascribed to that mantra
then indeed this country is going
to take it place sooner, rather than later
among the tigers and the developed countries of the world.

But it will all depend on you!

Got a Free Swedish-Thai Full Body Massage worth £100

I had a really crazy Friday night, not to tell you the uber stressful work days before that. I befriended a man from London. He is a traveler and he studied Massage Therapy during his days. He was a good guy.

I went home the next day around 9 in the morning and was not able to sleep due to the very noisy neighbors. I guess they were having a party where I was not invited. Instead of doing nothing in my place, I went to Ayala for a quick shop and coffee...and met the London guy in Bo's Coffee at the Terraces. I again accompanied the man and talked...well, I listen most of the time.

We were talking about the culture of the Philippines and the United Kingdom....and a little with the United States...until we noticed how tired we were because of the crazy party last night. We has a quick coffee and watched a great movie!

Swedish-Thai Full Body MassageAfter the movie, we talked about the Massage Therapy he studied and he offered me a free Swedish-Thai Full Body Massage! He told me that it usually cost a £100 (100 Pounds) to get a massage like this. It was exactly an hour and a half and used a Harmonising Massage Oil (I think you can buy this at the Body Shop).

It was a really great experience! Cheers!

Dell in Cebu: A Dell-Ng Khai Partnership

Last October 1 was indeed a remarkable day for me:
  1. First, because it was my first time to actually get inside the newly opened Radisson Blu Hotel here in Cebu. It was officially opened last September 27, 2010 and the place is really amazing inside and out. You might nor find better photos yet on the web, but try to go there yourself. It's awesome!
  2. Second, it was the very first Press Conference of Dell in Cebu with Ng Khai as their partner to achieve hyper-growth in the Philippines.
  3. Third, It was an honor to meet Gerry Tecson, the very first Cebu-based employee of Dell.
  4. Lastly, it was a great pleasure to finally meet Chris Papa, Dell’s country manager for SMB (Small and Medium Business) Philippines. Also met Ricky Banaag, INTEL's Country Manager in the Philippines.
The partnership's goal is to expand Dell's regional coverage, especially here in Cebu since Cebu is the second biggest growth center in the Philippines next to Metro Manila. With the help of Ng Khai, Dell will easily be able to identify their market in Cebu in no time. Ng Khai is popularly known because of their track record in the advancement and promotion of IT solutions in Cebu.

Below if the Official Press Release of the Dell-Ng Khai Partnership:

**

NG KHAI JOINS DELL’S PARTNERDIRECT PROGRAM
And Becomes Official Certified Dell Partner

CEBU CITY, Philippines – 01 October 2010 – In its continued commitment to achieve hyper-growth in the Philippines, global IT company Dell (NYSE: Dell) appointed Cebu-based leading IT solutions provider Ng Khai Development Corporation as its certified PartnerDirect affiliate to address the Cebu and the Southern market.
