Last February 20, 2011, I was invited to watch a dance recital at the Cultural Center, University of San Carlos Girls High organized by the Spotlight Dance, Co.

I thought it was just an ordinary mambo jumbo recital, but I was fascinated and astonished by the performances that I saw. It was just brilliant! They performed different kinds of dances like jazz, ballet, hip hop, breakdance and poi (fire dance) with guest performers: HOTARU Fire Dancers, SNAPBOIZ (contestant of Pinoy Got Talent), and GOD of STYLES Bboying Crew.

Spotlight's Creative Director is Ms. Ellen Marie Chua Tan, an artist with almost 22 years of experience in dance and 8 years in teaching.

Spotlight Dance Co. is a dance school, a professional training ground of the country's most promising young talents in dance that, with the help of BASELINE Restaurant and Recreation Center, started last summer, 19th of April 2010.

With a unique curriculum that encompasses various dance styles and techniques, the systematized method and approach to instruction takes highly into account student's anatomy at various ages and levels so that the training is first and foremost physically safe, technically effective and artistically interesting for them.

We use the Royal Academy of Dance and Australian Conservatiore of Ballet syllabus for ballet while the teacher (s) of Jazz, Contemporary Dance, Tap, Hip Hop, Breakdance, Ballroom, POI/Firedance classes employ the basic technique available to provide students with exceptional foundation and performance skills.

Regular courses in dance (Classic Ballet, Contemporary Dance, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Breakdance, Ballroom, POI/Fire Dance for all levels) including performance and workshops are offered from July to March. From April to May, the school conducts a summer (6-week intensive) technique training culminating in a dance showcase.

Nokia, the world’s no. 1 mobile phone brand, recently had the Nokia Music Connection elimination round with four head banging performances at Casa Nami. Music Connection is a joint Nokia, Star Records and Myx competition that gives aspiring recording artists the chance to enter the mainstream music industry. Present during the event were judges: General Manager of Nokia Philippines, Benoit Nalin; Star Records’ Album Producer, Jonathan Manalo; Star Records’ Managing Director, Annabel Regalado-Borja; and guest judge, Myx VJ Robin Nievera.

Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta 2011 Schedule of Events

Thanks to Marco, our plan of going to the Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta 2011 is now sealed with 'Approved'. Yes!!! Finally, I will be seeing a real hot air balloon up-close. Hopefully, I can ride one! That is the GOAL!

My friends and I will be leaving for Clark, Pampanga on February 11 until February 13, 2011. I can't wait to see all those hot air balloons flying. I'm also excited to see the rumored exhibitions of aircraft, sky diving and other exhibition that they say is super cool! I bet it is a must see!

STAR FACTOR AUDITION in Cebu – A New Reality TV Show by TV5

Just today, I was invited to attend a Press conference by TV5 for their new reality TV show, Star Factor, which will be aired this September. Star Factor is composed of different staff who has experienced and are good in dealing with reality shows.

One of the questions during the press conference was addressed to the Chairman of the board of judges, Audie Gemora, which implies like this:

“What can you give or your asset for the reality shows success?”

-The immense years of learning and training, fashionably said by Mr. Gemora.

TV5 invades Cebu to search for potential teen stars

TV5, the country’s fastest growing network, will be looking for good-looking and talented Cebuanos who have the potential to be the country’s next teen celebrities in the day-long auditions to be held at SM Cebu’s Event Center on August 7 (Saturday) from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

STAR FACTOR AUDITION in Cebu

The auditions will be for TV5’s upcoming reality-based talent search Star Factor, which will screen showbiz hopefuls aged 13-18 years old for the total package of good looks, exceptional talent and charm, and the all-important star quality. Applicants are required to bring a copy of their birth certificate, two passport size and two full body pictures and fill up the Star Factor registration form at the audition venue.

Airing in September, Star Factor will be hosted by actress-host-model Ruffa Gutierrez, who herself is the epitome of what stardom is all about. Not only will she serve as a role model for the show’s would-be contestants, she will be a big sister, mentor and friend to them as well.
Aside from the young showbiz aspirants who will be undergoing various challenges to prove their rightful claim to stardom, Star Factor also showcases a panel of judges who are experts in the field of show business and who all have the eye for true star potential.

The Star Makers (Star Factor’s panel of judges) are composed of acclaimed stage actor and director and Talent 5 head Audie Gemora as the chairman, with multi-awarded writer and director Joey Reyes, photographer of the stars Raymond Isaac, maestro of Philippine music Mr. Ryan Cayabyab, and popular talent manager Ms. Annabelle Rama.

Come and Watch: My Fair Lady Stage Play

I hope this entry is not too late to let everyone know that the Department of Languages and Literature (DOLL) of The University of San Carlos in partnership with the English Majors Association (EMA) will be staging “My Fair Lady” which is a play based on George Bernard Shaw’s “Pygmalion”. This will be an opportunity for the viewers to look into the socio-cultural and historical values portrayed in the story.
