Mailboxes today are most of the time unused, unfortunately. This is because of the never ending technological advancement and the Internet Era. However, this doesn't apply to all places, especially to rural places.
Back when I was small in our place, mail boxes are very common, significant...and are being used often. I remember the days when I used to check our mailbox 5 to 7 times a day because of excitement if there are letters popping out of the mailbox. Even if the letter was not for me, I would hastily go out and check the mailbox is its empty or not.
The most unforgettable thing that I could remember was I chasing the postman because he did not leave any letters in our mailbox. I screamed at the postman because he forgot to leave something for me...and I was so disappointed that there were no letters for me to check that day.
I wish to go back to a certain point in life where mailboxes are still the source of communication...simply because you can feel the sincerity of the one making the letter.
